Naturally beautiful eyes are a great asset to anyone, but too much sun and staring at a monitor can do serious damage to them. The skin around the eye is very delicate and is therefore susceptible to sun damage. Whether the cause is overexposure to sunlight or squinting on a bright day, eyes that are not protected with dark glasses will eventually be surrounded by wrinkles.

The best way to prevent wrinkles around the eye is to moisturize the skin daily, wear sunscreen and always wear dark glasses that are polarized on sunny days. While there are many eye treatment creams available, massaging a natural oil such as rosemary essential oil, extra virgin olive or virgin coconut oil around the eye daily will keep the skin moisturized and nourished. It is important to always use gentle, upward strokes to avoid pulling the skin downward.

Eye strain is common for people who work at a computer all day, and many spend extra hours watching television or looking at their PC at home. Make a thin paste with baking soda and water, dab it beneath the eyes and relax for about 10 minutes. Care should be taken to avoid getting the solution in the eye itself, and then use a wet washcloth to gently remove the dried mixture. The skin will feel tightened and the dark circles diminished for a brighter, fresher look to the eyes.

Some additional causes of dark circles and puffy eyes include lack of sleep, allergies, smoking and heredity. With the exception of heredity, a lifestyle change can help correct the problem. Once the reason for tired looking eyes has been identified, changes can be make to eliminate the cause.
